There are many opportunities to cut back on energy consumption when nobody is home and the FutureRouters concept team takes this to heart. Not only does the device combine Internet connectivity with a place to store your keys, once the last person takes his or her keyring, the router shuts down. When someone returns home and places their keys back on the router, internet connectivity resumes.
Easy!
Expand this to concept to other home automation/smart home technologies and the possibilities abound. Sadly, no word on when or if the router will see the light of day. Nonetheless, I vote for keeping its Half Life headcrab-esque look if it ever goes on sale.
