Neil deGrasse Tyson’s Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey — which follows in the footsteps of Sagan’s 1980 masterpiece — closed the book on the so-called “debate” on global warming. Point by point, he shot down each of the counterarguments for reducing carbon emissions… using SCIENCE! (Sorry for the all-caps.)
Sunday’s episode, “The World Set Free” tackles climate change and destroys the hand-wavey reasons skeptics love to trot out: the Sun, volcanoes, Mother Nature’s having a hot flash… It’s somewhat fitting that it aired on the eve of the announcement of the EPA’s Clean Power Plan.
Favorite line of the episode: “Follow the man, not the dog.” Though adorable, that dog will lead you astray… Another highlight, at least for this New Jerseyian, was the scene with Seaside Heights roller coaster in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
You can watch a clip above. Apologies for the ad if you had your speakers turned up. Catch the full episode here.
Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey airs on Fox and later on National Geographic. Fingers crossed for a second season.
